I do solemnly swear, by the everlasting God, that I am a citizen and resident of the State of Colorado as required by the laws of this state before entering upon my duties as a police officer; that I will support the Constitutions of the United States and of Colorado, the laws and statutes of the State of Colorado, the County of Adams, and the ordinances of the city of Thornton; and that I will perform all the duties pertaining to Police Officer of the city of Thornton, State of Colorado, to the best of my ability.

As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve the community, to safeguard lives and property, to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against abuse or disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality and justice. I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all and will behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to me or my agency…

Training

The Thornton Police Department provides training based on CALEA standards, Colorado POST standards, legislative mandates, city of Thornton annual requirements, as well as department policies and CIRSA requirements. Training in 2023 will be focused on scenario-based and circuit learning that provides smaller student group sizes and more individual-focused training.
