How to File a Criminal Police Report

When submitting your police report online, an officer will review your online report and will, if needed, contact you for more information. You will be provided with an official case number once your report is accepted by an officer. Through the Thornton Police Department online reporting system, you can report non-violent reports such as:

  • Damaged property

  • Minor car crash

  • Fraud/Identity theft

  • Graffiti

  • Lost property

  • Tampering

  • Theft

  • Theft from a vehicle

  • Theft of a license plate

  • Theft of motor vehicle parts

Filing a police report should only be done if:

  • It is not an emergency

  • The incident occurred within Thornton city limits.

  • There are no suspects

  • You are not reporting a violent crime

  • There is no physical evidence (for example, a screwdriver left behind by a suspect)

If an incident is not among the list of crimes that are appropriate to report online, please call the Thornton Police Department non-emergency line at 720-977-5150 to file your report.

Upon completion of your report, you will:

  • See the words “Your online police report has been submitted.” showing that your police report is complete and sent to an officer for review.

  • Receive a temporary report number. Once the officer approves the report, you receive the official case number.

  • Receive information about how to obtain a copy of your report by calling Records Department at 720-977-5140.

Please note: filing a false police report is a crime.
