Thornton Police investigate fatal shooting on Colorado Boulevard

The Thornton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Aug. 21 on Colorado Boulevard, just south of East 100th Avenue.

Officers were dispatched after a caller reported a vehicle had crashed into a pole. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male and an adult female inside the vehicle, both with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers began rendering aid until medical personnel arrived.

The male died at the scene. The female was transported to the hospital, where she died several hours later. The victims' identities are being withheld pending positive identification by the Adams County Coroner's Office and notification of next of kin.

Colorado Boulevard was closed between East 100th Avenue and Thornton Parkway for approximately 5 hours. Investigators continue working to determine the circumstances of the shooting and develop suspect information.
